Tiktok has this feature added as part of their app some time ago. <a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/polly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amazon Polly<\/a> &#8211; Amazon&#8217;s version of text-to-speech service &#8211; was launched in 2016 and supports quite a large <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.aws.amazon.com\/polly\/latest\/dg\/SupportedLanguage.html\" target=\"_blank\">number of languages<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/blogs\/aws\/aws-week-in-review-september-26-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\">this week<\/a>, AWS announced the availability of a female Cantonese voice to Polly. Upon reading about this, I have to test it out. For the test, I took a sample text from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/YES933\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">YES 933 facebook<\/a> page and fed it to Polly. I must say I&#8217;m very impressed with the results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\"  id=\"_ytid_10529\"  width=\"580\" height=\"435\"  data-origwidth=\"580\" data-origheight=\"435\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/b7Bxjr99d5Y?enablejsapi=1&#038;autoplay=0&#038;cc_load_policy=0&#038;cc_lang_pref=&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;loop=0&#038;modestbranding=0&#038;rel=1&#038;fs=1&#038;playsinline=0&#038;autohide=2&#038;theme=dark&#038;color=red&#038;controls=1&#038;\" class=\"__youtube_prefs__  epyt-is-override  no-lazyload\" title=\"YouTube player\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen data-no-lazy=\"1\" data-skipgform_ajax_framebjll=\"\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, Amazon Polly is not the first or only Cantonese text-to-speech service out there, but it&#8217;s definitely one of the most natural sounding one I&#8217;ve heard. Looking forward for more languages to be support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Footnote: there are some minor modifications to the text to achieve the desired result, eg. to get pauses in the right places, to say nine-three-three instead of nine hundred thirty three etc. But otherwise only default settings are used.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By now, text to speech systems are quite common and widely in use.
